A market first: The hybrid roller shutter

New collaborations and products. Z&R publishes an article in its November magazine about the collaboration between SLS Zonwering and BREL HOME, and the premiere of SLS Zonwering with their hybrid shutter.

Sander Koreman was looking for a new challenge. Together with Sven and Louis Michielsen, he founded SLS Zonwering in 2024. A team of eleven employees now works to meet the high demand for shutters with smart control from BREL HOME. With their knowledge and experience, SLS Zonwering launched a premiere in October 2024: a hybrid shutter, exclusive to the Benelux.



“In 2014, I started with Klusbedrijf Koreman,” says Sander. “I specialized in exclusive bathrooms, but occasionally installed an awning. Two years ago, I was ready for something new and came into contact with Sven Michielsen, who was looking for a business partner. “Unfortunately, Sven fell ill and the plans were put on hold. However, Sander did not let go of the plan. He continued discussions with Sven and his father Louis, who had 35 years of experience in the sun protection industry. Together they visited trade fairs to find their opportunity in the market. In 2024, Louis resigned from his employer and SLS Zonwering was founded, with a name representing Sander, Louis, and Sven. Their main drive: ensuring a future for Sven.

Innovation with the hybrid shutter

Sander and Louis decided to introduce two products, including a standard shutter that they produce themselves. The real breakthrough came with the launch of their hybrid shutter, a premiere for the Benelux. This shutter comes in two variants: the Absent light and the Radiant light. The Absent light is ideal for offices or bedrooms, as it lets in a lot of light without reflecting. The Radiant light is perfect for home use due to its elegant design that allows more light and air while providing privacy and a pleasant warmth and coolness.

“Our hybrid shutter has three small slats of 16 mm, where the standard shutter slat is 45 mm,” explains Sander. “This allows much more light to enter, while the shutter remains sturdy and burglar-proof thanks to several aluminum panels.” Moreover, the hybrid shutter functions as both a shutter and a screen in one, with a design that fits interior design. “It keeps heat out in summer and inside in winter. And, it is resistant to all weather conditions. Customers especially appreciate the elegant design and the ability to look outside without being seen from outside.” The hybrid shutters are easy to operate via smartphone, remote control, switches, and SmartHome integration.

 

Collaboration with BREL HOME and future plans 

During Polyclose, Sander met sales manager Daan Paulissen from BREL HOME. “I immediately felt a connection with Daan and the company,” says Sander. “He had answers to all my questions and is extremely solution-oriented.” BREL HOME turned out to be the perfect partner for the automatic control of the shutters. “They offer innovative solutions and the service is fast and reliable,” says Sander. “SLS Zonwering now exclusively sells BREL HOME products for controlling the shutters, such as the popular BREL SOLAR motors and the wifi motor. The collaboration is seamless and many SLS dealers share this enthusiasm. The sale of the hybrid shutter began in September 2024 and is immediately a success. “We notice that demand is high and sales are increasing daily,” says Sander with satisfaction. “It's great to see that sun protection dealers are excited about this new development and want to surprise their customers.”

For the future, Sander has big plans. “We work with a great team of eleven people and share the same vision to grow. We promote our own products through our website and social media. We want customers to easily order their shutter and control via our webshop. Every day I work with pleasure and hope that SLS Zonwering may become great.”
