Premiere: Solar-powered articulated arm awnings

BREL HOME is experiencing a first with the introduction of the first solar-powered motor drive for retractable awnings and large screens. A new, sustainable control suitable for all existing systems.

“We are proud of this innovative and sustainable development within our range of outdoor shading motorization,” say Reinoud Arts and Erik Budding. “It is a unique motor that runs on solar energy and is equipped with a wireless sun and wind meter, causing the awning to extend when the sun shines and retract when it disappears or when strong winds occur. This offers safety and savings on energy costs.”

The practical facts

“The motor boasts no less than 50Nm,” Reinoud continues. “Because the motor is equipped with an internal battery, you can install it in the same way as other BREL HOME products. Moreover, it has a crown motor head, allowing it to fit into all existing systems.

Standard, the motor is equipped with a fabric tension correction system. This means you only need to program the lower position, and the screen will always close properly. You can also disable this function and use the system for heavy shutters.

For safe operation, the motor has special software ensuring that if the battery is nearly empty, the awning can only be retracted. This prevents a retractable awning from being stuck due to a dead battery.”

Erik adds: “What is special about the motor is that it works with a wireless sun and wind meter, type DD-118 and remote control type THW2415*. This ensures the awning lowers when the sun shines and raises again when the sun disappears. The wind protection always ensures that the awning is neatly stored when strong winds occur. Optimal use!”

Finally, Reinoud mentions the two possible versions of the solar panel:

• the standard version of 5W. “This is more than sufficient for regular use where the screen goes down and up once a day.”
• The extra option of a heavier solar panel of 10W with double dimensions. “This solar panel allows a screen to go down and up multiple times a day. Ideal for the integration of a sun and wind meter that automates control. It will never let you down!”
