Smart household appliances increasingly popular: market grows to €3.7 billion

Smart household appliances are rapidly taking over Dutch homes. In 2024, the market grew to a staggering € 3.7 billion, an increase of € 200 million compared to the previous year. Smart sunshades and shutters remain the frontrunners in this growing market. This is evident from the latest Smart Home Monitor, a survey conducted among more than 5,400 Dutch people.

Smart sunshades: the favorite in smart home solutions
What are the Dutch investing in when it comes to smart devices? Sunshades and shutters are high on the list. Not only because of the advanced technologies, but mainly due to the convenience and comfort these products offer. 52% of consumers cite this as the main reason for purchasing smart household appliances.

With one press of a button – or even fully automatic – smart sunshades adjust to weather conditions and personal preferences. This means less heat in the summer, better insulation in the winter, and optimal control over light entry. And all this without getting up from the couch!

Smart home continues to grow, but sunshades stand out
Currently, 27% of Dutch households own smart household appliances, which amounts to over 2.3 million households. Although this percentage remains stable compared to last year, the total market value has increased.
