Video: Brel Home innovates with smart IoT sunshades

Automatic sunshades that motorize up and down based on the weather: according to TNO figures, a business premises can save almost 20 percent energy with this. Brel Home in Doetinchem developed such smart sunshades with IoT technology from Vodafone Business. Director Erik Budding is firm and enthusiastic in this video: “And now into Europe!”

Project developers, office builders, and owners in 2024 are keen on anything that can green their properties – especially if serious savings are involved. The automatic, smart sunshades from Brel Home attracted significant attention at recent European trade fairs. 

Programmed as Desired

PZN technicians install a smart IoT sunshade from Brel Home at a Degalux project in Nieuwkoop.

“We are making an impression with our new product”, says Budding. “This is because the screens are connected to the installer via IoT SIM cards, they can be fully programmed as desired, they are wireless (yet another cost saving), and installers can achieve significant management benefits with them. We have high expectations for our smart sunshades.”

Energy Savings

In addition, there is really something to gain. Automatically controlled outdoor sunshades can yield an energy saving of up to 19 percent in offices according to TNO. Companies can also fully automate their sunshades with the new BREL technology. “This can be done per floor, level, or facade, allowing you to use as few heating or cooling elements as possible. We have implemented ready-made schemes in the software that allow you to comply with the new ISO standard in one go. With the press of a button, you are certified.”

Plan Maintenance

The IoT technology also makes it easy for the installer, for example, to proactively plan maintenance: “As soon as we detect that the motor is running heavier, which may indicate a defect or excessive wear, a signal is sent to the facility manager of the sunshade company. This makes it possible to plan maintenance proactively, before actual problems occur.”

And the reason for consciously choosing to collaborate around IoT with Vodafone Business? "The European network. Crucial for achieving success in the European market", Budding knows.
